Privacy policy
Effective 2026-10-21. TriRaceWeek (triraceweek.com) is a free guide run by Ricardo Santos, New Jersey, USA, who is responsible for the personal data described here. Contact: privacy@triraceweek.com.
Short version: there are no accounts, no ads and no selling of data. Analytics and usage recordings only run in the way described below, and you can change your choice at any time with Privacy choices.
Your choices
The first time you visit, a banner asks what you allow. If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK, Switzerland, Canada, Brazil, or anywhere outside the United States, nothing beyond the strictly necessary loads until you opt in. In the United States, Google Analytics runs by default and you can switch it off; Microsoft Clarity recordings always need your opt-in. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as an opt-out of both. Browser "Do Not Track" signals have no agreed standard, so we don't act on them separately.
What we collect and why
Analytics: Google Analytics 4 (only with the consent described above)
Pages you view, links and buttons you click (for example "Check dates" or a bike shop's website), the race page you're on, approximate location (country/city), device and browser type, and how you arrived. We use it to see which races and features are useful. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (_ga, _ga_*) that last up to 2 years. Google signals, advertising features and data sharing with other Google products are switched off; we don't send Google your name, email or other identifying details. Google does not log or store IP addresses in Google Analytics 4. Event data is kept for 14 months. Learn how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Usage recordings: Microsoft Clarity (only if you opt in)
We partner with Microsoft Clarity to capture how you use and interact with the site through heatmaps, scroll and click data, and session replays, so we can improve the pages. Text you type and the race-report form are masked and never captured. Clarity uses cookies (_clck, _clsk, and Microsoft cookies such as MUID) for up to a year. Microsoft processes this data under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Recordings are kept for 30 days; aggregated heatmap data is kept longer, as set by Microsoft.
Race reports you send
If you submit "Where did you stay?" on a race page, we receive the race, the place, the year, the boxes you tick and your note. We don't ask for your name or email; please don't include them. Submissions are stored by our host Netlify and screened for spam by Akismet (Automattic). We may quote reports anonymously on the race page and keep them while the race page exists; email us to have one removed.
Hosting and maps
Like every website, our host Netlify receives your IP address and browser details to deliver pages and keeps short-term logs (about 30 days) for security. Map tiles load from the OpenStreetMap Foundation's servers, which receive your IP address to send the map images (OSMF privacy policy). Fonts and the map library are served from our own site, not from Google or other CDNs.
Stored only in your browser
Your km/mi setting (saved when you press the button) and your privacy choice. These never leave your device.
Links to other sites
"Check dates" opens Booking.com and other links open hotel, shop, map or race websites. Their own privacy policies apply once you're there. If we later earn a commission from any of these links, we'll label them next to the link.
Legal bases (EEA, UK and similar laws)
Analytics and usage recordings: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. Hosting, security logs, map delivery and spam screening: our legitimate interest in running a secure, working site. Race reports: your consent when you choose to send one.
Who receives data and where
Google (Google Analytics), Microsoft (Clarity), Netlify (hosting and forms), Automattic (Akismet spam screening) and the OpenStreetMap Foundation (map tiles). Some are in the United States. Google, Microsoft and Netlify rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (and its UK and Swiss extensions) and/or Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers from Europe. We don't sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we don't use it to make automated decisions about you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask to access, correct or delete personal data about you, object to or restrict its use, withdraw consent, or get a copy. Because we don't hold names or accounts, the quickest way to delete analytics data on your side is to clear your cookies and choose "Reject all"; for anything else, email privacy@triraceweek.com and we'll reply within 30 days. You can also complain to your data protection authority (for example in the EU, the UK ICO, Switzerland's FDPIC, Canada's OPC or Québec's CAI, or Brazil's ANPD).
Children
The site is for adult athletes and isn't directed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date at the top and, for significant changes, ask for your choice again.
